NFL Picks for Bets and Contests

Another week, another bad beat or 2. It all started in Germany with New England +2. At halftime I realized I needed the game to end 7-6 for any chance at a cover, and I almost got that score at the start of the 2nd half. IND received the 2nd half kickoff, but threw an interception, giving NE the ball at the 50. NE went 33 yards to the 17, but missed the FG. After forcing IND to punt on the next possession, NE finally got the field goal to make it 7-6. Unfortunately, IND returned the ensuing kickoff to the 42 and only needed to go 20 yards to get a field goal of their own, 10-6. NE marches down the field on the next drive and gets into the red zone, but QB Jones throws an INT, and that was the game. I needed that missed field goal.

Green Bay is the other bad beat. It was just outside a cover at halftime, but GB got the ball to start the 2nd half and the defense had settled down so I was feeling okay about the game. Sure enough GB gets a field goal to start the 2nd half and we’re covering. PIT punted on it’s next drive, GB got a field goal to take the lead, but PIT answered back with their own field goal 19-20. After 3 consecutive punts, PIT got the ball back with 9:24 remaining in the game. PIT ran the ball very well on that drive before stalling out and kicking a field goal to extend the lead to 4. On the next drive, GB used 2 big chunk plays to gain 60 yards and get into the red zone. But on 2nd an 9 from the PIT 14, QB Love threw an interception in the end zone. GB managed to make PIT punt and have one last chance, but since they were down 4 they weren’t kicking a field goal and I was taking a loss.

And that’s the story of this season for me. So close each week to having something special happen, but instead of a 6-1 week I was stuck going 4-3. I don’t think it’s my year, but maybe I can get hot and win a SuperContest 3-week or 6-week contest or one of the Circa quarters. Still a few more chances, but need the ball to start bouncing my way.
