Top NFL Survivor Picks and Strategies for Success
Week 3
Probably the most popular football contest ever, Survivor only requires you to pick 1 game winner each week. The catch, you can’t use the same team twice. Here are some different strategies that I’m applying each week, and of course the teams I expect to win.
DraftKings Pools offers multiple NFL Survivor contests each season with entry fees ranging from $10 to $1,000. If I’m going to enter a $1,000 Survivor contest, it would be the Circa Survivor, which pays out $15 million to the winner. I haven’t had as much success with survivor as I have with pick ’em pools, so I stay to the $10 and $100 entries. This year, I have 40 entries in the $10 pool (winner gets $1.2 million) and 3 entries in $100 contest (winner gets $900 thousand). They are also running 2nd and 3rd chance survivor pools that I will enter and follow similar strategies as outlined below.
Option Strategy
I deployed the option strategy in week 2 using the New England at Miami and LA Rams at Tennessee games to split 20 remaining entries. I also used the same teams in the 2nd chance pool, and went from 16 teams to 8 teams. This week I’ll continue with the option in both of those contests, going from 10 and 8 teams down to 5 and 4. I’ve also added 16 entries into the $10 3rd chance pool offered by DraftKings, and will be using the option strategy in that contest this week as well. I’ll be using both sides of the Pittsburgh at New England and Las Vegas at Washington games.
New Mexico Strategy
On my $100 entries I used Pittsburgh, Dallas and Arizona as the picks on my 3 entries. The Steelers had lots of issues on special teams, and the vaunted defense just doesn’t seem to have it this year. Dallas’ defense did it’s best to give the game to Wilson and the Giants, but sealed it with an interception in overtime. Dallas kicker Aubrey is the teams MVP. Arizona jumped out to a big lead but then let Carolina sneak it’s way back into the game, making the end more interesting than it should be. I also used Pittsburgh on my $100 2nd chance entry, so I met an early elimination in that contest.
I still have 2 entries in the original $100 contest, and I’ll again follow New Mexico’s guidance this week. With that said, I’m taking Buffalo on Thursday Night Football with 1 of the 2 entries I have remaining. I’m also entering a 3rd chance $100 contest at DraftKings, and I’ll use Buffalo on that entry as well. For the 2nd entry I’ll take Green Bay over Cleveland.
What survivor strategies are you deploying? What teams are you taking this week? Normally the first few weeks are filled with big upsets, does that happen in week 3? Let me know in the comments.
